When/why
did you get involved with fitness and who
are your role models?
I’ve been involved in fitness
for as long as I can remember. When I was
young I always wanted to race and play games
but asthma held me back. In high school
I started to better manage my asthma and
was a three sport athlete. I was offered
a scholarship for Track to Eastern Illinois
University and spent 4 years focusing on
the sport I loved. I ran a marathon and
although I ran faster then my 4 hour goal
I was left feeling empty. My body was built
for strength and finally I decided to compete
in a Figure Competition. My athletic role
models growing up was Jackie Joyner-Kersey
she overcame so much adversity from her
childhood and later battling asthma. Also,
my high school jumping coach Chaille Torrey
was a woman I have always looked up to and
learned a lot from.
How often do you train and what is
your favorite and least favorite body part
to train?
Really this depends on the time
of year; I avoid cardio for as long as possible
before shows. Normally I will weight train
4-5 days a week in a split routine. When
I finally add in cardio I try to limit it
to 3-4 days a week. For me, lifting is the
much larger part of the equation and the
part that I can push the boundaries.Lifting shoulders and biceps are probably
the most fun because of the insane pump
I get but I would have to say Legs are my
favorite part to train. With legs I really
get to push my body to its limit and nothing
feels better then finishing a good leg workout.
As far as my least favorite part to train…definitely
abs.
What is your inspirational credo or
motto, words to live by?
Train hard or go home.
I really believe this; don’t waste
your time in the weight room if you aren’t
serious about being there.
